Saving my small Montreal business (and why social media is killing me!)

Posted by NouLuv Boutique on

I recently read a release about the top 10 social media trends for 2025, and the one trend that really stood out to me—authenticity.

In the spirit of being authentic I want you to know that the business I’ve spent 2.5 years building is in danger of closing….

I’ve done everything in my power to keep it open - workshops, sales, programs, fill-a-bags…and on…

As we roll into 2025, this is my final push.

Like so many of you, especially moms returning to work after maternity leave, I’ve been thinking about my next moves. I’ve talked about them with friends, and I’ve had to admit that the stress of surviving this economic crisis, the constant burnout, and the overwhelm of keeping this store open have eclipsed the joy it brings me.

During a holiday meal, my close friend’s mom pointed something out: I love writing. I always have. But what would I write about?

Then, in a fit of viral-induced 4 a.m. coughing (thanks 7-yr old), it hit me: there are still people who like to read. And maybe I do have things to say...

I do it all the time with my regular clients in the store—about parenthood, careers, body acceptance, emotional growth...all the things we already connect about in person.

You might be wondering: who starts a written blog in 2024? Especially a small retailer on a quiet main street in January who should be spending time making trendy TikToks and reels dancing around my kitchen.

Or showing you all my beautiful products, perfectly lit and presented. Or giving away gifts to influencers who’ll post photos of their cute babies and tag me for a week, so I can get 10 new followers.

Maybe someone will buy something. Maybe not. Because…algorithms! Social media is exhausting.

We’re bombarded with images all the time. Can we come back to words?

When I opened NouLuv, this is what it was supposed to be about: community—near and far—sharing, crying together, and making life as parents, in all our unique circumstances, a little easier.

So here we are. Can we save this business together?
